Cole Academy is seeking a full-time Academic Interventionist for the 2025/2026 school year .  

Cole Academy is Lansing's longest-standing charter school in the state of Michigan and received a charter through Central Michigan University in 1995. The Academy originated as an Early Childhood Center and over the years, gradually became a K-5 Public School. Combining a foundation of current, research-based, balanced literacy objectives and a sustained professional development direction from Heggerty and UFLI and current literacy program supports that  "raised the bar" for student achievement. Reader’s and Writer’s Workshops continue to be critical directions for Cole Academy. Math facts operation and mastery and problem solving are a strong focus within our math curriculum. MTSS tiered interventions and support and PBIS behavior supports continue to be at the forefront of our student progress monitoring for student growth and success. All core subjects are a priority with ELA and Math as the foundation.

The main purpose of the Academic Interventionist is to assist in improving the academic achievement of all students. They work directly with teacher (s) and student advocates/parents to support the whole child. We are looking for certified teacher or working towards certification in education K-8 as an interventionist for MTSS in ELA and Math.

Academic Interventionist duties consist of:

  1. Service students who need additional academic instruction to advance their progress, through both individual and small group pull-out support.
  2. Be skilled at building trusting, caring and supportive relationships with students.
  3. Utilize the MTSS framework to make data-based decisions regarding social and emotional learning, positive behavior supports, and high-quality instruction.
  4. Work with teachers and support staff to build and implement individualized academic intervention plans.
  5. Use of technology to monitor and assist students academically, with an emphasis in mathematics and/or ELA skills.
  6. Administer assessments minimally 3X’s a year including but not limited to NWEA MAP Growth, running records, CORE phonics survey, PAST screener, AIMS WEB Plus, etc.,
  7. Collaborate with teachers to provide consistent, intensive, and targeted support for students.
  8. Complete Individualized Reading Improvement Plans (IRIPS) for K-3 students demonstrating a reading deficiency.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned by administration.
