Weston Preparatory Academy (WPA) is one of the top academic performing schools in Detroit. The staff works in collaborative grade level teams to provide high level instruction and high expectations to our 300, K-8 students. All of our technology rich classrooms include Smartboards, Chromebooks, or Ipads for all students to support instruction. Teachers and students have subscriptions and access to various online learning platforms to support learning 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.
WPA is a neighborhood school, located on 10 picturesque acres in a safe, west side Detroit neighborhood. We value the partnerships with our parents, neighborhood and community associations.
The staff participates in focused professional development 12 days a year that directly relates to the Weston educational program. Professional development is embedded to support our curriculum in grades K-8, data driven instruction, Restorative Practices and Trauma Informed approaches. In addition, new staff members are assigned a mentor that provides year round support of the school’s philosophies and all instructional programs.
Job Summary:
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Preschool Aide to join our team. The Preschool Aide will support the educational development and social emotional growth of preschool-aged children in a learning environment that promotes engagement, exploration, and discovery. The Preschool Aide will work collaboratively with the Lead Teacher to implement the curriculum, manage classroom activities, and assist in creating an inclusive and nurturing environment for all students.
Responsibilities:
Essential Duties:
Assist the Lead Teacher in planning and implementing daily lesson plans that align with the curriculum frameworks.
Facilitate small group and one-on-one instruction to reinforce skills and concepts taught in the classroom.
Monitor student progress and provide feedback to the Lead Teacher regarding individual student needs.
Contribute to the ongoing assessment of student development and learning through observation and documentation.
Assist in preparing reports and maintaining records as needed for student assessments and curricula.
Support behavioral management strategies and assist in resolving conflicts as they arise among students.
Ensure a safe and clean classroom environment by organizing materials and resources effectively.
Work closely with the Lead Teacher and other staff members to promote team cohesion and effective collaboration.
Participate in school activities, meetings, and events to contribute to the overall mission of the institution.
Maintain a safe and positive environment for all students
Maintain effective communication with students, parents, and school staff
Regular and predictable attendance
Cognitive Demands:
Supervision of multiple students at once
Establishing routines and procedures
Maintaining a safe and orderly environment
Create and implement instructional plans
Participate in continuous professional development
Effective oral and written communication skills
Physical Demands:
Occasionally lift/move objects weighing up to 25lbs
Stand and walk frequently
Occasionally sit on the floor or bend down/squat
Withstand all demands presented by outside weather conditions at any time of the year
Withstand a moderate noise level
Be able to perform first aid/CPR if necessary
Assist/lift students, as necessary
Qualifications:
A minimum of an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
Understanding of child development principles, early childhood education practices, and the GSRP framework.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in planning and assessing educational activities
Experience in a preschool or early childhood setting
Strong understanding of child development and the principles of early childhood education
