West Michigan Academy of Arts & Academics is seeking a PK-8 Dance Teacher.

West Michigan Academy of Arts & Academics is a TK-8 public school academy chartered by Grand Valley State University. We are located in Spring Lake and our students come from many surrounding districts in Ottawa and Muskegon counties. WMAAA focuses on arts integration and high academic achievement. Position: Full-time pK-8 dance teacher. Partner Solutions is seeking a certified teacher for West Michigan Academy of Arts and Academics (WMAAA), a public-school academy in Spring Lake, MI.

Duties: Include teaching dance to all pK-8 students. Prepare students for performances including grade level program, Dance For Change, and choregraph for the musical. Other duties include, but are not limited to, attending regular staff meetings, serving on school-related committees and participating in professional growth and development conferences.

Qualifications

• The successful candidate will lead a program that integrates dance into student life and supports the development of confident, culturally awareness, and artistically-capable student’s
• Valid Michigan teaching certificate or at least 60 credits to qualify for a permit with 5 years of dance experience
• Strong content knowledge and experience in various style of dance including; ballet, tap, contemporary, modern, hip hop, jazz, and the ability to choregraph in each genre
• Proven organizational skills in coordinating performances, rehearsals, and technical logistics
• Commitment to inclusive practices and fostering a safe, supportive environment for all learners

Responsibilities

• Teaching dance courses pK-8
• Directing and/or participating in arts performances
• Supporting student development in creative collaboration, public performance, and constructive critique
• Participate in musical preparation – choreography, rehearsals, staging, etc.
• Plan lighting, sound, and production design of performances Actively participating in continued professional development in this area, school and community events, and department planning
• Collaborates with families and other staff members to ensure academic success of students
• Evaluates and monitors students' progress on a periodic basis
• Cooperate with teachers, parents, and community members
• Offer individual help to students to ensure satisfactory progress
• Support planning and executing summer arts camp
• After school and evening activities are necessary at times for rehearsals and performances
• Perform other duties as assigned
