Copper Island Academy is seeking a part-time Athletic Director to join our outstanding educational team.

Copper Island Academy is a newly authorized public school academy in the Keweenaw Peninsula of Michigan located in Calumet. Position Summary

Copper Island Academy is seeking a Year-Round Part-Time Athletic Director to oversee the planning, development, and coordination of the Academy’s middle and high school athletics programs. This position offers flexible scheduling and the opportunity to work primarily off-campus, with on-site responsibilities including attendance at games, meetings, and occasional school events.

Key Responsibilities

● Attend all regional athletic director meetings to coordinate athletic schedules and officials

● Coordinate additional games/matches as needed

● Coordinate student transportation for off-site athletic events, in alignment with district policies

● Maintain athletic calendars and ensure alignment with school programming

● Recruit, support, and evaluate coaching staff in partnership with school leadership

● Attend and oversee home athletic events

● Communicate effectively with families, staff, and community members

● Ensure compliance with MHSAA rules and school policies

● Coordinate athletic equipment, uniforms, and facility needs

● Foster a school-wide culture of sportsmanship and student-centered coaching 

Position Structure

● Part-Time Year-Round: Workload varies by season

● Hybrid Format: Most responsibilities can be completed remotely, except for games and key meetings

● Flexible Schedule: Ideal for candidates seeking work-life balance or other professional commitments 

Qualifications

● Previous experience in athletic program coordination or coaching

● Strong organizational and communication skills

● Familiarity with MHSAA rules and best practices

● Ability to lead with a student-first, character-driven approach

● MHSAA Leadership Training Course (not mandatory but encouraged)

Location: Calumet, MI (Hybrid, with on-campus duties)
