Old Redford Academy is hiring a High School Choir Teacher.  Must have teacher certification and endorsement in the subject.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated High School Choir Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in music education, exceptional vocal skills, and the ability to inspire and motivate students to excel in vocal performance. The successful applicant will lead choirs of varying levels, creating a positive and inclusive environment that encourages creativity, teamwork, and a love for music.

Responsibilities:

Essential Duties:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive lesson plans that meet the curriculum standards and cater to diverse learning styles, covering vocal techniques, music theory, and performance preparation.

  • Conduct daily rehearsals for one or more choir ensembles, focusing on ensemble singing, sight-singing, and ear training.

  • Prepare students for various performances, including concerts, competitions, and community events, ensuring a high level of artistic quality.

  • Organize and manage choir-related activities such as concerts.

  • Develop assessments and monitor student performance through various methods, including tests, quizzes, projects, and presentations.

  • Collaborate with colleagues to align curricula and participate in ongoing professional development initiatives.

  • Participate in school activities, meetings, and events to contribute to the overall mission of the institution.

  • Maintain a safe and positive environment for all students

  • Maintain effective communication with students, parents, and school staff

  • Regular and predictable attendance

Cognitive Demands:

  • Supervision of multiple students at once

  • Establishing routines and procedures

  • Maintaining a safe and orderly environment

  • Create and implement instructional plans

  • Participate in continuous professional development

  • Effective oral and written communication skills

Physical Demands:

  • Occasionally lift/move objects weighing up to 25lbs

  • Stand and walk frequently

  • Occasionally sit on the floor or bend down/squat

  • Withstand all demands presented by outside weather conditions at any time of the year

  • Withstand a moderate noise level

  • Be able to perform first aid/CPR if necessary

  • Assist/lift students, as necessary

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Music Education, or a related field.

  • Valid teaching certification/license in Michigan for secondary education with an endorsement in the subject. 

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in planning and assessing educational activities.

  • Strong vocal performance abilities with proficiency in various musical styles.
