School Occupational Therapist
Light of the World Academy is hiring an School Occupational Therapist. Familiarity with sensory integration, applied behavioral analysis, or similar experiences are preferred, but not required.
Light of the World Academy is a Montessori K-8 Public Charter School Located in Pinckney, Michigan. At LOTWA, we provide a Montessori education that follows the child’s individual growth intellectually, socially, emotionally, and physically by creating multi-age grouped classrooms that celebrate the learning process through independence, discovery, and exploration and provide a safe, peaceful, and respectful community that is grounded in service both locally and globally.
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate School Occupational Therapist to join our educational team. The ideal candidate will work with students of varying abilities to promote independence and enhance their participation in school activities. The Occupational Therapist will assess students’ needs, develop and implement individualized treatment plans, and collaborate with educators, parents, and other professionals to support students' developmental and educational goals.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Assessment and Evaluation:
- Conduct comprehensive evaluations to assess students' fine motor skills, sensory processing, self-care abilities, and other functional skills.
- Analyze information obtained from various sources, including standardized tests, observations, and input from teachers and parents.
2. Individualized Treatment Planning:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and occupational therapy plans based on assessment results.
- Set measurable goals and objectives for students to enhance their academic and functional performance.
3. Therapeutic Intervention:
- Provide direct occupational therapy services in individual or small group settings, focusing on skill development, sensory integration, and daily living skills.
- Utilize a variety of therapeutic interventions, including adaptive equipment, activities of daily living, and sensory integration techniques.
4. Collaboration and Consultation:
- Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and other related service providers to ensure a comprehensive approach to each student’s needs.
- Provide training and support to teachers and staff on strategies to assist students in the classroom environment.
5. Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress, treatment plans, and therapy sessions.
- Prepare periodic reports for parents, educators, and administrative personnel regarding student outcomes and progress.
6. Professional Development:
- Stay current with best practices, research, and trends in occupational therapy and special education.
- Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities and training sessions.
7. Advocacy:
- Advocate for the needs of students with disabilities and promote awareness of occupational therapy’s role within the school setting.
- Engage with families and community resources to support students’ needs outside of the school environment.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.
- Valid state licensure or certification as an Occupational Therapist.
- Experience working with children in educational settings is preferred.
- Strong understanding of special education laws and regulations.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a diverse team.
- Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive environment.
