Director of Special Education

Covenant Academy Foundation is hiring a Director of Special Education.

The Covenant Academies Foundation operates a network of public charter schools serving at-risk youth in Saginaw, Muskegon and Kalamazoo.  The academies provide a unique educational model focused on character development, academic rigor, and real-world skills to help students overcome barriers and achieve their full potential.

Responsibilities: 

Leadership and Oversight

  • Provide leadership and direction for all aspects of the special education program across the Covenant Academies network.

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant federal and state laws and regulations related to special education. (e.g. IDEA Section 504)

  • Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) across all schools.

Student Services

  • Coordinate and supervise the provision of special education services to students with disabilities, including

    • Instruction

    • Related Services (E.g. speech-language therapy, occupational therapy)

    • Assistive technology

    • Accommodations and modifications

Teamwork and Collaboration

  • Collaborate with school administrators, teachers, parents and other professionals to ensure the success of students with disabilities

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with families of students with disabilities.

  • Participate in IEP meetings and other relevant meetings.

Professional Development

  • Provide professional development opportunities for teachers and staff on special education topics across the Covenant Academies Network.

  • Stay current on best practices in special education for at-risk youth.

Data Analysis and Reporting

  • Collect, analyze, and report data related to student progress and program effectiveness across the network.

  • Prepare reports and maintain accurate records as required.

Qualifications:

  1. Master Degree in Special Education or related field

  2. Valid state certification in Special Education

  3. Proven experience as a special education administrator or supervisor (preferred) in an urban or high-needs setting

  4. Strong knowledge of special education laws and regulations

  5. Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills

  6. Ability to work effectively in a team environment
