World History Civics Teacher
Detroit Community Schools is hiring a High School World History and Civics. Must have Michigan teacher certification and endorsement in the subject.

Detroit Community Schools is seeking a passionate and dedicated High School Teacher to teach World History and Civics. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of historical concepts, events, and civic responsibilities, and will possess the ability to inspire students to appreciate the significance of history and their role in society. This role requires creativity in lesson planning, effective classroom management skills, and the ability to foster a positive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Curriculum Development & Instruction:
- Design, implement, and assess engaging lesson plans that align with state standards and promote critical thinking about World History and Civics.
- Utilize a variety of teaching methods, including lectures, discussions, group work, and technology integration, to cater to different learning styles.
- Develop and adapt curricula as needed to meet the diverse needs of students.
Classroom Management:
- Create a respectful and inclusive classroom atmosphere that encourages student participation and fosters a love for learning.
- Establish clear classroom rules and expectations, managing student behavior firmly and fairly.
Assessment & Evaluation:
- Assess student understanding through various methods, including tests, quizzes, projects, and presentations, providing timely and constructive feedback.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and achievement.
Professional Development:
- Stay informed about current educational trends and historical scholarship through continuous professional development and collaboration with colleagues.
- Participate in faculty meetings, workshops, and school events, contributing to the school community.
Parent Involvement:
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and guardians regarding student progress and any concerns that may arise.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in History, Education, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Michigan Teaching certification with an endorsement in the subject.
- Strong knowledge of world history, U.S. history, civics, and current events.
- Previous teaching experience at the high school level is a plus but not required.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to create an engaging, inclusive, and diverse learning environment.
