Position Summary:
The Director of Finance will play a crucial role in overseeing the financial operations of International Academy of Flint. This position is responsible for leading the financial planning, budgeting, and reporting processes to ensure the efficient allocation of resources in support of the district’s educational goals. The Director of School Finance will work collaboratively with school leaders, district administrators, and external stakeholders to promote financial accountability, transparency, and sustainability.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Planning and Budgeting:
Develop and manage the district's annual budget in accordance with state regulations and district policies.
Lead the budget preparation process, including forecasting revenues and expenditures, and making recommendations to the CFO/Superintendent.
Monitor financial performance throughout the fiscal year, identifying variances and recommending necessary adjustments.
Financial Reporting:
Prepare and present financial reports to the Board of Education, ensuring clarity and accuracy.
Ensure compliance with all financial reporting requirements at the local, state, and federal levels.
Oversee the preparation of financial statements and other financial documentation.
Resource Allocation:
Collaborate with school leaders to optimize resource allocation for instructional and operational needs.
Analyze funding sources and expenditures to support strategic decision-making.
Policy Development and Compliance:
Develop and implement financial policies and procedures in alignment with best practices and regulatory requirements.
Ensure compliance with tax laws, reporting standards, and financial regulations.
Leadership and Team Development:
Supervise and mentor finance department staff, fostering a culture of professional development and collaboration.
Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including auditors, vendors, and community partners.
Grant Management:
Oversee the financial management of federal, state, and local grants, ensuring compliance with grant conditions and requirements.
Assist in the identification and application for funding opportunities to support district initiatives.
Audit and Internal Controls:
Coordinate annual audits and ensure the implementation of audit recommendations.
Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard district assets.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field; Master’s degree and/or CPA certification preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in financial management, budgeting, and accounting, preferably within an educational setting.
Strong knowledge of K-12 education funding structures, financial regulations, and budgeting processes.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels.
Proficiency in financial management software and Microsoft Excel.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with financial forecasting and modeling.
Familiarity with school district financial management software and reporting tools.
Knowledge of grant funding mechanisms and processes.
