Job Summary:
The Behavior Intervention Specialist provides leadership at the building level, working to help design, implement, coordinate, and evaluate the Tier II and Tier III behavior support interventions. In addition, the Behavior Intervention Specialist works directly and aggressively with identified students to adopt pro social behaviors that will substantially increase their school engagement and academic achievement. The Behavior Intervention Specialist in coordination with the Director of Climate, Culture and Student Success will provide evidenced based strategies and activities specifically designed for targeted students.
Description of Duties:
Principal Roles and Responsibilities:
- Understands, accepts, and abides by the Academy’s philosophy and mission statement in all of his/her activities
- Arrives punctually, be prepared for each school day, and maintains regular attendance.
- Assist staff in: identifying antecedents, identifying function of behavior, understand the principles of reinforcement, and teaching new behaviors
- Attend MTSS meetings that: design Behavior Intervention Plans, social skills instruction, and School-wide Positive Behavioral Support
- Work directly with teachers, groups of teachers or staff on issues related to factors that affect implementation of interventions
- Use ongoing assessments to maintain a record of student progress
- Provide and coordinate recognition of a variety of student achievement and positive behaviors
- Engage in ongoing professional development to increase knowledge and skills of positive behavior support for all students, targeted students and students who represent sub-group populations
- Review behavior referrals and SWIS data reports
- Utilize EdPlan to create and document student progress
- Engage parents/caregivers in the “student behavior intervention plan” process and empower parents/caregivers by providing them with skills and techniques to support the positive behavior development of their child
- Participate in the School Leadership Team (PBIS/School Culture) and/or other meetings as appropriate to achieve the overall goals of the academy
- Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill
- Consult with the Dean of Academics, Dean of Students, Social Workers, Student Services Specialists, teachers, and parents/caregivers as needed
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required and/or minimum of five years of K-12 experience in working with “at-risk” and/or “behaviorally challenged” students
- Must have 60 credit hours
- Knowledge of function-based intervention planning
- Knowledge of techniques needed to successfully complete effective Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA), function based interventions, and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP)
- Ascribes to the philosophy that all children can succeed and demonstrates the commitment to do what is necessary to make this a reality
- Social Emotional Learning Training or Endorsement
- Computer literacy, required
- Criminal records clearance

- Occasional lift and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds
- Stand and walk frequently
- Withstand all demands present by outside weather conditions at any time of the year
