Job Summary

The Part-Time Online Special Education Teacher provides specialized instruction and academic support to students with disabilities in a virtual learning environment. This position develops and delivers individualized, standards-aligned instruction, implements IEP accommodations and services, and monitors student progress. The Online Special Education Teacher collaborates with families, general education teachers, related service providers, and school staff to support student achievement and ensure a positive online learning experience.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties

• Provide specialized instruction to students in an online learning environment.

• Develop and implement instruction aligned with student IEPs, curriculum, and state standards.

• Implement IEP accommodations, modifications, goals, and services as required.

• Monitor and document student academic and behavioral progress.

• Adapt instruction and learning materials to meet individual student needs.

• Provide individual and small-group instruction through virtual platforms.

• Maintain regular communication with students, families, teachers, and support staff.

• Participate in IEP meetings and assist with the development and review of IEPs.

• Maintain accurate and timely special education records and documentation.

• Use assessment data to identify student needs and adjust instruction.

• Support students in developing academic, organizational, communication, and self-advocacy skills.

• Establish consistent expectations and maintain an engaging and supportive virtual classroom environment.

• Collaborate with general education teachers and related service providers to support student success.

• Maintain confidentiality of student information.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Ability to frequently use a computer, keyboard, mouse, headset, and other technology.

• Ability to communicate verbally for extended periods.

• Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Education, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.

• Valid Michigan teaching certificate with appropriate Special Education endorsement required.

• Previous experience providing special education instruction preferred.

• Experience with online or virtual instruction preferred.

• Knowledge of IEP development, special education regulations, accommodations, modifications, and instructional strategies.

• Strong communication, organization, and classroom management skills.

• Proficiency with virtual learning platforms and educational technology.

• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with students, families, teachers, and school staff.

• Commitment to supporting students with diverse learning needs and promoting student success.
