Huron Academy is currently hiring for part time Lunch/Recess/Latchkey Workers. 

$15/hour. Monday - Friday Times Varies, looking for during lunches and after school.

Huron Academy is a tuition free public charter school for K-8th located in Clinton Township.  We offer smaller class sizes, a hands on science program, character education, and strong academic programs.  Latchkey and preschool classes are offered five days a week throughout the year.  

Job Summary

The Lunch & Recess/Latchkey Worker is responsible for supervising students during lunch, recess, and before- and/or after-school latchkey programming. This position helps maintain a safe, positive, and orderly environment while supporting student behavior, engagement, and appropriate interactions. The Lunch & Recess/Latchkey Worker works collaboratively with school staff to ensure students are supervised and supported throughout the school day and latchkey program.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties

• Supervise students during lunch, recess, and latchkey programming.

• Monitor student behavior and reinforce school expectations and rules.

• Ensure students remain in designated areas and follow safety procedures.

• Assist students with questions, needs, and appropriate problem-solving.

• Support positive social interactions and encourage respectful behavior.

• Monitor student arrival, dismissal, and transitions as assigned.

• Lead or assist with age-appropriate activities during latchkey programming.

• Assist students with homework, reading, games, crafts, or other activities during latchkey hours, as appropriate.

• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment.

• Address minor behavioral concerns and report significant concerns to appropriate school staff.

• Follow school safety procedures and emergency protocols.

• Communicate student concerns and relevant information to teachers or school leadership.

• Maintain confidentiality of student and school information.

• Work cooperatively with teachers, administrators, and other school staff.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.

• Ability to move throughout the school, playground, lunchroom, and latchkey areas.

• Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach as needed when working with students.

• Ability to occasionally lift or carry materials weighing up to 25 pounds.

• Ability to respond quickly to student safety and supervision needs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.

• Previous experience working with children or in a school or childcare setting preferred.

• Experience in a latchkey, before/after-school, childcare, or youth program preferred.

• Ability to effectively supervise and interact with students.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

• Dependable, patient, flexible, and professional.

• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
