PE/Health Teacher
George Washington Carver Academy is hiring a PE/Health teacher to join the team. Must have Michigan Teacher Certification and endorsement.

Responsibilities
Essential Duties:
- Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned Physical Education and Health lessons that promote physical fitness, healthy lifestyles, teamwork, and lifelong wellness.
- Create a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment where all students can participate and succeed regardless of skill level.
- Develop and implement age-appropriate activities that improve motor skills, physical fitness, sportsmanship, and overall health knowledge.
- Assess student progress through skill demonstrations, participation, fitness assessments, written assignments, and other appropriate evaluation methods.
- Instruct students on health topics including nutrition, personal wellness, mental health awareness, disease prevention, safety, and healthy decision-making.
- Maintain and organize gymnasium equipment, instructional materials, and learning spaces to ensure a safe environment.
- Collaborate with colleagues to align curriculum, support school-wide initiatives, and participate in ongoing professional development.
- Supervise students during physical activities and ensure adherence to safety procedures and school policies.
- Participate in school activities, meetings, and events to contribute to the overall mission of the institution.
- Maintain effective communication with students, parents, and school staff.
- Regular and predictable attendance.
Cognitive Demands:
- Supervision of multiple students in both indoor and outdoor instructional settings.
- Establishing routines and procedures for physical activity and equipment use.
- Maintaining a safe, organized, and active learning environment.
- Creating and implementing engaging instructional plans for Physical Education and Health.
- Monitoring student safety while providing differentiated instruction.
- Participating in continuous professional development.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
Physical Demands:
- Frequently stand, walk, run, demonstrate physical activities, and actively participate in instruction.
- Occasionally lift, carry, or move equipment and objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Frequently bend, squat, kneel, reach, and perform physical demonstrations.
- Withstand all demands presented by outside weather conditions at any time of the year during outdoor instruction.
- Withstand moderate to high noise levels in gymnasium and outdoor environments.
- Be able to perform first aid/CPR if necessary.
- Assist/lift students, as necessary.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Health Education, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or a related field. Master's degree is a plus.
- Valid Michigan teaching certificate with a Physical Education (MB) endorsement. Health endorsement preferred or ability to teach Health as required by the district.
- Strong knowledge of physical education curriculum, health education standards, and effective instructional practices.
- Ability to motivate and engage students of varying physical abilities and learning styles.
- Excellent classroom management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in planning, instruction, and student assessment.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).
