Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and innovative 5th-6th Grade Math Teacher to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in instilling a love for mathematics, fostering student independence, incorporating hands-on learning experiences, and embedding career awareness opportunities into mathematics instruction.
Duties:
- Mathematics Instruction:
- Develop and implement engaging and differentiated math lessons aligned with the curriculum and Finnish education principles.
- Foster a growth mindset among students, encouraging them to embrace challenges and learn from mistakes.
- Promoting Student Independence:
- Implement instructional strategies that empower students to take ownership of their learning.
- Encourage self-directed inquiry and critical thinking skills through problem-solving activities.
- Hands-on Learning:
- Integrate hands-on and real-world applications into math lessons to enhance understanding and make learning tangible.
- Create opportunities for collaborative projects and group activities that promote teamwork and communication skills.
- Career Awareness Opportunities:
- Infuse career awareness elements into math lessons to demonstrate the real-world applications of mathematical concepts.
- Facilitate discussions and activities that help students connect their math skills to potential future careers.
- Assessment and Feedback:
- Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and adjust teaching strategies accordingly.
- Provide timely and constructive feedback to students, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Collaboration and Professional Development:
- Collaborate with colleagues to create a cohesive and supportive learning environment.
- Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in education.
- Parent and Community Engagement:
- Establish positive relationships with parents, keeping them informed about student progress and involving them in their child's education. Engage the community in classroom instruction and hands-on experiences.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field.
- Valid teaching certification for elementary education with a focus on mathematics.
- Proven experience teaching mathematics at the upper elementary and/or middle school level.
- Strong understanding of Finnish education practices and a commitment to integrating them into daily instruction.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Passion for fostering a joy-filled learning environment.
